Vandals Cause Destruction at Stillwater Locations

Over the weekend, vandals broke into and destroyed property at two different locations in Stillwater. The incidents occurred at the Stillwater Softball locker room at Couch Park and the south Stallard building belonging to local nonprofit MPower.

The Stillwater Softball locker room, which is shared with the SHS baseball team, was vandalized. The incident occurred just before the Lady Pioneer softball squad’s home opener against Norman. The rooms were trashed, furniture was broken, windows were shattered, and debris was scattered throughout the area.

MPower, a local nonprofit that provides services and employment to individuals with developmental disabilities, also fell victim to vandalism. The south Stallard building, where MPower is located, was broken into and suffered similar destruction. The building houses job-training and placement programs, Adult Basic Education classes, and residential services.

According to MPower’s director, Amy Spiva, the vandalism is disheartening. The organization had to close its doors temporarily to clean up the damage. Almost every area of the building was affected, with broken windows, doors, toilets, sinks, and stolen items such as laptops and sound equipment.

MPower estimates the damages to be between $75,000 and $100,000. Immediate repairs are needed for plumbing and glass work. Replacement items can be purchased with funds from grants and fundraising partners. Monetary donations can be dropped off or mailed to MPower offices at 316 S. Stallard St, 74074.

Despite the setback, MPower is determined to continue with their planned End Of Summer celebration on Friday.

The Stillwater Police Department is currently investigating both cases but has not yet identified any suspects. Anyone with information related to the incidents is urged to call the SPD tip line at 405-533-TIPS.
