Investigation Continues into Deadly Shooting at Summerlin Law Office

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
As the investigation continues into a deadly shooting at a Summerlin law office last week, services for renowned attorney Dennis Prince will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Prince and his wife Ashley, also killed in the shooting, are leaving the community with one final gift.
Prince’s obituary states that rather than giving flowers for his memorial, that community members donate to two organizations.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Goal 5: Gender Equality
- Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
One of those organizations is The Shade Tree, a nonprofit that provides services to victims of domestic violence.
The Shade Tree: Providing Support for Domestic Violence Victims
“We have the utmost sympathy and condolences to the family on what they’re going through,” said Linda Perez, CEO of The Shade Tree.
Perez has seen her fair share of domestic abuse and violence, including the deadly shooting last week, when attorney Joe Houston is accused of shooting his former daughter-in-law Ashley Prince and her husband Dennis Prince to death.
“When finding out about this tragedy, one it’s very heartbreaking and it’s very devastating because of the work that we do and the space that we’re in,” said Perez.
There are further allegations from Ashley’s family about verbal and mental abuse from Houston’s son Dylan, who Joe was representing in a custody deposition when he pulled out a gun last Monday.
Perez says domestic issues can involve any relationship, not just intimate partners, and can come in many forms.
Types of Domestic Violence
- Physical abuse
- Mental abuse
- Financial abuse
- Emotional abuse
- Harassment through inappropriate text messages and phone calls
Perez says one in four women and one in seven men experience domestic violence.
“That means either you or someone you know, someone you love has or will be affected by intimate partner violence in their lifetime if we don’t start talking about it,” she said.
With abuse cases increasing, Perez is thankful donations from Dennis’ funeral will go towards The Shade Tree.
“We will be forever grateful,” said Perez. “And we will make sure that we are doing them justice on continuing our work.”
