Four Arrested for Attempted Child Exploitation in Hartford

4 people arrested in Hartford for attempted child exploitation

After speaking to undercover law enforcement online, the individuals allegedly agreed to pay for sexual relations with an underage female, police said.

Introduction

Four people were arrested by Hartford police on Friday for attempted child exploitation, according to a report by the police department. The operation was part of an undercover sting operation conducted by the Special Investigations Division to target and combat child exploitation within Hartford’s city limits.

Undercover Operation

The undercover operation involved undercover law enforcement personnel pretending to be a 15-year-old girl’s aunt on the internet. They communicated with the subjects and reached agreements to engage in monetary transactions in exchange for sexual relations with the underage female. The subjects confirmed their arrival at an undisclosed hotel and were provided with a specific room number by detectives.

Arrest and Charges

When the targets arrived at the hotel room, they were greeted by an undercover detective posing as a juvenile. The targets were quickly placed into custody by an arrest team. Four separate offenders were taken into custody during the operation. The arrested parties were transported to the Special Investigations Division for debriefing and later processed for charges including criminal attempt/illegal sexual contact with a minor under 16, second-degree criminal attempt/sexual assault, and criminal attempt/commercial sexual abuse of a minor.

Collaboration and Assistance

The undercover sting operation was conducted with the assistance of the Major Crimes Division, Southeast and Northeast Community Service Officers, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Crimes Against Children/Human Trafficking Task Force.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  1. Goal 5: Gender Equality – The operation aimed to combat child exploitation and protect underage females from sexual exploitation.
  2. Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions – By arresting individuals involved in attempted child exploitation, the police department is working towards maintaining peace, justice, and strong institutions.
