Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development: Advancing Sustainable Development Goals through Equitable Youth Programs

Introduction

Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development, in collaboration with its partners, is committed to delivering best-in-class, relevant, and equitable programs and services. These initiatives are designed to meet the specific needs of individuals and communities at both neighborhood and regional levels throughout the City of Oakland. This mission aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), by promoting inclusive and equitable opportunities for all youth.

Program Offerings and Registration

Emphasizing youth development, Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development is excited to announce the availability of Town Camp and a variety of summer programs for Summer 2025. These programs are designed to foster community engagement, personal growth, and social inclusion, supporting SDG 4 and SDG 10.

1. Priority Registration for Campers in Need of Financial Aid: Begins February 18, 2025

Town Camp Public Service Announcements

To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, the Town Camp PSA is available in multiple languages, supporting SDG 10 by reducing language barriers:

Community Engagement and Accessibility

In response to overwhelming demand, the department is temporarily not accepting new bench or plaque dedication requests, with updates expected in Spring 2025. This measure reflects responsible resource management in line with SDG 11.

For in-person services, individuals are encouraged to contact the department directly to schedule appointments, ensuring equitable access to services (SDG 10).
